Why do Black Games Matter?

I am a bit concerned about the lighting for the venue. I usually like to have my slides with light text on very dark backgrounds, but this only works if the room is sufficiently dark. Please let me now if the venue lighting can accomodate such otherwise I can change to the safe option.
